I Love to Read Month - Update
Brandi
February is I Love to Read Month, and Roosevelt students are reading more than ever! As of today, Mrs. Sacchetti's class is leading the race with the most AR points, Mrs. Scheuring's class is second, and Mrs. Collins Wedge's class is in third place. At last count, kids have taken nearly 800 AR quizzes in 2 and a half weeks! Wow, it look those fifth graders are doing a ton of reading!
iPods
Meghan and Maddie
In the beginning of the school year, our school got one classroom set of iPod Touches. A couple of the apps that we use are, Are You Smarter Then a Fifth Grader, Unblock Me and Waterslide. We play with them in Tech class sometimes. We created slideshows in Powerpoint and loaded them on the iPods, so we can use them like flashcards. We hope that soon iPods will be used in all classes, not just Tech. Our school is so glad that we have iPods and great computers.

Boxtops
Lathan and Skyler
The Boxtops competition is underway for Roosevelt students during the month of February. In some classes, the box top container is over flowing or getting full. Some classes even need another container! The winner will get a popcorn and movie party. It is an easy way to earn a lot of money for your school. Bring in those Box Tops! Thank you to Madison H. for this story.
Kindergarten Buddies
Toni and Ana
Every month, Mrs.Sacchetti's fifth graders hop on a bus and heads to Parkview. Why? To visit with their kindergarten buddies! Since the begining of the year, these Roosevelt students have been buddies with Mrs.Erickson's class at Parkview. They have been having lots of fun. They read and do crafts. Each person has their own buddy.

What a busy basketball weekend... The fourth grade girls came out champions their tournament in Cherry this weekend. Congratulations, girls! The sixth grade girls won 2 and lost 2 in Cherry. Fifth grade boys won the Northern Elementary Conference tournament in Babbitt this weekend, too! They defeated Nashwauk-Keewatin 46 to 17, defeated Mesabi East in a close one, 36 to 35, Defeated Eveleth-Gilbert 40 to 23 and came out on top of Tower-Soudan 48-42. Wow, quite a tournament! What a weekend for the Blue Devils. The 5th grade boys and girls are having Pacesetters with Virginia hosting it. Four games will be running at once - with both tech gyms and the main gym split in half. Pacesetters is on the 27th. What fun!!

The X-games have come and gone, but did you know that Mrs. Scheuring and her husband, Steve, own a snowcross team? Snocross is snowmobile racing. Their drivers placed sixth and tenth at the X-Games in Colorado in January. You can find out more information by going to scheuring-dash-speedsports-dot-com.

Book Review
Lathan
The Demigod Files is a book from the series "Percy Jackson and The Olympians". The Demigod Files is written by Rick Riordan. There are three stories in the book. It is about a boy (the son of Poseidon) and his friend. His friend gets in trouble because her brothers take a war chariot and she has to get it back, with help from Percy Jackson. That's just the first story. The next one is about a dragon. Percy's friend gets kidnapped by ants and Percy and some friends help. The next story is about the sword of Hades and Percy and two friends have to find it. They go through a lot, but they soon they find it. I would recommend this book to people who like mythical stories.

jigzone.com
Jigzone is a website for kids age 7 and older. You put together puzzles virtually. You can pick 6 pieces to 247 pieces for a puzzle. There are many topics to choose puzzles from, like Animals, Holidays, Sports or Ocean Life. This is a good site for people that like putting puzzles together. It is good if you have just a couple extra minutes.
